Hinsdale families: Join Sleep Out Saturday

Nov. 6 event to raise awareness and funds for homeless neighbors

On November 6th, nearly 1,000 west suburban community residents will spend what promises to be a cold night inside tents, boxes and cars to raise awareness about family homelessness and funds for Bridge Communities' Transitional Housing Program.

Families, youth groups and friends will participate in Sleep Out Saturday on November 6, (with some choosing an alternate date between October 15-December 4), to experience an immersive and empathic night about family homelessness. The event has a fundraising goal of $125,000, which is raised by sponsors of the “sleepers” and corporate sponsorships.

Bridge Communities offers complete Sleep Out Saturday toolkits with advice for both small groups and remote Sleep Outs, featuring socially distanced activities, movies and more, to make the experience meaningful and life-changing. The toolkit also includes guidance to help families and groups fundraise and a link to a virtual presentation at 8 PM on November 6 for participants to experience the event “remotely together.” Additionally, groups can request to have special visits from Bridge Communities clients, sharing their testimonials of moving from homelessness to hope.

Proceeds from the event benefit the 100+ homeless families served annually by Bridge Communities, and provide transitional housing, life-skills mentoring, financial counseling, employment training, tutoring, children’s services, nutrition coaching and more.
