Hinsdale Fire Department Raises Over $8K For Charity

The department said this year's fundraising brings the total to more than $90,000 donated over the past seven years to local charities.

HINSDALE, IL — At its annual charity softball event in honor of Deputy Fire Chief Mark Johnson, the Hinsdale Fire Department raised over $8,000 in one day. The event was held Sept. 24 at Veeck Park in Hinsdale, and several teams from nearby communities participated in the tournament.

The department said this year's fundraising brings the total to more than $90,000 donated over the past seven years to local charities, including the Wellness House, Hinsdale Family Services, Hinsdale’s Safety Village and the Illinois Burn Camp.

According to the department, Hinsdale fielded three teams, the police department, fire department, and staff members from the village hall. Other teams included the Western Springs, La Grange Park, and Westmont fire departments as well as the Pleasantview and Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection Districts.

The department said the first game of the tournament was a spirited match between the Hinsdale Fire Department and the Village Hall Staff, which the Village Hall won 6 - 7. The Village Hall staff was unable to field a team in their next game, so several members of the Hinsdale Fire Department joined them to create a super team, which eventually made it to the championship game at the end of the day. However, Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District came out the victor as they won in the final inning with a score of 12 - 8. Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District was awarded the Big’s Bareknuckle Softball Championship trophy.
