Hinsdale Hospital Visitor Allegedly Steals $800 in Employee Property

Twelve gift cards and a smartphone were taken from a hospital staff room between Dec. 21 and Dec. 25.

Theft—Reginald V. Meadows, of 16W749 56th Pl. in Clarendon Hills, was arrested Dec. 29 after allegedly stealing 12 gift cards worth $50 each from employee mailboxes when Meadows was a visitor at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital between 12:34 p.m. Dec. 21 and 7 a.m. Dec. 25, according to the .

Meadows is also alleged to have stolen a $200 Android cell phone from the same room. 

Hinsdale Police Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said a worker at the hospital distributed more than 50 of the gift cards to fellow employees via mailboxes located in a staff room and became suspicious something was amiss when several employees reported not receiving the cards. The thefts were reported on Dec. 27.

"Investigators made contact with [Meadows] and he became a suspect because he was seen in and near the area where the employee mailboxes were," Wodka said.

Wodka said the staff room where the mailboxes are located is near one of the hospital's visiting rooms. Meadows, 20, was visiting a patient receiving care at the hospital and was seen in and around the staff room several times during his visits.

"It was legal for him to be in there," Wodka said of the staff room. "But his being around there was seen as unusual."

Meadows, 20, was charged with theft and released to appear in court.

Editor's note: This article previously stated that Reginald Meadows was accused of stealing all of the 50-plus gift cards contained in hospital staff mailboxes. After speaking with Deputy Chief Wodka, it was made clear he is only being charged with the thefts of 12 cards. Other employees successfully received the cards. Patch apologizes for the mistake. 

Theft—An unknown suspect stole 20 feet of copper pipe from an underground parking garage in the 10 block of Kennedy Lane between 3:30 p.m. Dec. 22 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 27, when the theft was reported.

The value of the pipe is $600. It was taken from an area of the garage currently under construction.

Theft—An ex-employee of All Star Home Care, 240 E. Ogden Ave., allegedly stole five C-PAP sleep apnea treatment masks at 12 p.m. Dec. 20.

Each mask is valued at $54. The theft was reported on Dec. 28.

Fraud—A female victim from the 200 block of Grant Village reported two unauthorized $60 withdrawals from her checking account that were made between Nov. 4 and Dec. 8. The withdrawals were reported Dec. 31.

Unlawful use of alcohol—Carter K. Genoar, of 320 W. Maple St. in Hinsdale, and Jack N. Gilbert, of 312 N. Oak St. in Hinsdale, were charged with underage drinking after a Hinsdale Police officer on patrol investigated the two suspects as they came out of the yard of a private residence near 1st and Oak streets at 12:50 a.m. Jan. 1 and Gilbert fled the scene.

Genoar, 19, was observed to be under the influence of alcohol and was found to be in possession of cannabis. Gilbert, 18, was apprehended at the Oak Street Bridge. Both suspects were charged with unlawful use of alcohol. Genoar was charged with possession of cannabis and Gilbert was charged with resisting a police officer. Both were released to appear in court.

Unlawful use of alcohol—Ryan T. Foley, of 1305 Macalpin Dr. in Inverness, was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol after he fled from a police officer responding to a noise complaint in the area of 3rd and Garfield streets and was observed to be under the influence of alcohol when located near County Line Road and 1st Street at 2 a.m. Dec. 31.

Foley, 19, was one of several teens that fled. He was charged and released to appear in court.
