Hinsdale Looks To Replace All Its Tasers
Four of the stun guns broke down in the last year, police chief says.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale is poised to change out its inventory of stun guns known as Tasers. Its officers share eight of them.
In the last year, four of the Tasers, purchased in 2012, have become inoperable, Chief Brian King told the Village Board this week. The other four Tasers, purchased between 2013 and 2016, are models that are no longer being manufactured or supported by Taser International, so the police thought it would be best to replace all eight, he said. The total price tag is $24,000.
For a comparison, Darien, which is about 25 percent larger than Hinsdale, has 10 Tasers.

Village President Tom Cauley wondered why the expense for the stun guns was not in the budget. King responded that the police department usually buys Tasers one at a time and that it was unusual for four to break down in one year.
The village started using Tasers in 2002.
