Hinsdale Pavilion To Meet Budget Target After All: Official

The work is expected to be done by fall, later than originally planned, the village president said.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale's budget for a pavilion in Burlington Park remains appropriate, despite bids that exceeded the amount, the village president said Tuesday.

Last month, the village received two bids, the lowest of which was $405,000, higher than the $350,000 budget.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Village President Greg Hart said officials are in talks with both original bidders and two others.

The companies have indicated that the pavilion budget is realistic, even with the state's mandated prevailing wage structure, Hart said.

"That is a very positive signal as we continue to move this process forward," he said.

Several people, including a trustee, have recommended a July 4 groundbreaking for the project, Hart said. Originally, officials had hoped to get the work done by the holiday, the nation's 250th anniversary.

He said the village aims to finish the project in the fall.

"A post-July 4 completion timeline appears to be the most realistic and aligned with community priorities," Hart said.

Trustee Alexis Braden, who has been involved in the planning, said she looked forward to the pavilion.

"It's well worth the wait," she said. "We have some very strong candidates who have a proven track record of historic preservation and building in this town."

The two original bidders were Roselle's LZ Design Build Group at $405,000 and Lemont's King's Landscape Design, which teamed up with Hinsdale's J. Jordan Homes, at $586,000.

The village has received three major pledged donations for the pavilion – $175,000 from Hinsdale Hospital, $100,000 from the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce and $25,000 from Hinsdale Bank and Trust.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Hart announced that DuPage County Board member Kari Galassi, a Republican, and her husband, Nick Galassi, have donated $10,000.
