Hinsdale Police Reports: Hit and Run, DUI, Phone Scam, Theft

Hinsdale Police Department reported crimes through May 12.

The car of a Hinsdale Middle School staff member was hit April 28 while it was parked on the street, unoccupied, at 100 S Garfield Ave., according to Hinsdale police.

Gregory P Kane, age 53 of Kaye Lane, Willowbrook, was stopped May 8 at Ogden Avenue and Route 83 for failing to yield to a stopped emergency vehicle, speeding, failure to signal and improper lane usage, according to Hinsdale police. He was observed to be under the influence of alcohol, and he submitted to testing that determined he was over the legal limit. Kane was arrested for drunken driving, police reported. He was charged and released to appear in court.

Someone claiming to be an IRS agent called a victim May 7 and threatened an arrest her if an alleged tax discrepancy was not collected, according to Hinsdale police. The victim deposited $2,986.73 into the suspect’s bank account. The victim recognized the scam when the suspect called the next day to ask for $5,000 more. The case is pending.

Someone filed tax returns May 4 using a victim’s information and her husband’s information, according to Hinsdale police.

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle May 10 while it was parked in a driveway in the 500 block of West 7th Street, according to Hinsdale police. Nothing was taken, but the glove box and the center console had been rummaged through, police reported.

Someone stole a wallet May 11 containing credit cards, identification and $250 from Manorcare on West Ogden Avenue, according to Hinsdale police.

Someone used a victim’s identity between March 24 and April 7 to open a credit card account and charged $441.17, according to Hinsdale police.
