Fraud Leaves Hinsdale Resident $22K Poorer: Police
Writer of email posed as contractor who did work for the victim, report says.
HINSDALE, IL — In late June, a Hinsdale resident received an email in which the writer posed as the company that was contracted to perform work for the resident, according to a Hinsdale police report. The victim was instructed to wire transfer $22,600 for services provided. The resident, who lives in the 400 block of West Hickory Street, did as instructed.
The victim was later contacted by the contractor and discovered the fraudulent activity, police said. The crime was reported Aug. 5. The case remains under investigation.
