Hinsdale School Districts Host Second Community Speaker

Dr. Bradley will discuss his book and helping today's overwhelmed teens on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22.

HINSDALE, IL – Community Consolidated School District 181 and Hinsdale Township High School District 86 announced that registration is open for the second installment of the 2017-18 Community Speaker Series featuring Dr. Michael Bradley, author of “Crazy-Stressed.” According to the district, Dr. Bradley will discuss his book and helping today’s overwhelmed teens on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 22 at 9:30 a.m. Both 90-minute sessions will be held at the Community House.

“I think we can all agree, parents and educators alike, that our students are indeed ‘crazy-stressed,’"Hinsdale District 86 Superintendent Dr. Bruce Law said in a release. “We see it every day in students of all ages, whether they are AP students, honors students, athletes, musicians, low or high income, pick your category, students are feeling stressed. We have been adding supports and working very hard to embed social-emotional learning strategies into our curriculum to give students the tools they need to cope with the challenges of life and we look forward to widening the discussion and hearing more on this topic from Dr. Bradley.”

The Community Speaker Series is presented by District 86 and District 181 in conjunction with the D181 Foundation and The Community House and was designed to inform and inspire families about issues in education and parenting.

The district said, in his presentation, Dr. Bradley first explains what's driving today's adolescent anxiety, depression, and negative behaviors and what the latest brain development research is telling us. Then with proven strategies from his three decades of practice and his own years as a father, Dr. Bradley provides practical advice on how to connect with your children to build their life-saving resiliency and what to do when you're facing a major mental health issue.
