Hinsdale Sees Bigger Hike In Coronavirus Cases
Clarendon Hills experiences a 15 percent rise in cases.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale saw 18 new coronavirus cases in the last week, amounting to a 9 percent increase, according to health authorities. In the previous two weeks, the village experienced 5 percent increases. As of Sunday, the village had 274 cases.
Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills saw its caseload increase by 14, or 15 percent, for a total of 107. That was one of the biggest percentage increases since the start of the pandemic.
As of Sunday, Hinsdale's number of coronavirus-related deaths remained at 38, authorities say. Clarendon Hills has recorded one virus-related death. Hinsdale's number is likely driven by an outbreak at the ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 15.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 9.2 in Darien, 9.8 in Western Springs, 10.2 in La Grange Park, 12.1 in Elmhurst, 12.2 in Clarendon Hills, 13.2 in DuPage County, 16.9 in Burr Ridge, 17.8 in suburban Cook County and 20.2 in La Grange.
As of Friday, ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home had reported 168 coronavirus cases and 33 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. Those numbers have not budged in recent weeks. Nursing home numbers include employees who may live in other towns. Such employees are not listed as being from Hinsdale in the case numbers.
While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 194,080, up 7 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,636 state residents.
Nationally, 5 million people have caught the virus, up 8 percent from the week before. A total of 161,284 people have died from the virus in the United States.
