Hinsdale Sees Biggest Virus Rate Hike In Month

Clarendon Hills and Hinsdale experience similar percentage increases in the last week.

HINSDALE, IL — Both Hinsdale and Clarendon Hill saw 6 percent increases in the number of coronavirus cases over the last week, according to county health authorities. For Hinsdale, it was the biggest weekly hike in a month.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 415 virus cases, up 23 from the previous week. Clarendon Hills, which is about half of Hinsdale's size, saw an increase of 11 cases, to 183.

No figures are available on those cases in which people are considered recovered.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale's coronavirus-related deaths numbered 42, the same as a week earlier, while Clarendon Hills has suffered two virus-related deaths, according to government numbers.

More than a third of Hinsdale's coronavirus cases come from the ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 23.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 16.2 in La Grange Park, 16.3 in Darien, 19.5 in Western Springs, 20.9 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 21.9 in Elmhurst, 26 in suburban Cook County, 26.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands) and 27.5 in Burr Ridge.

While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 319,150, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,984 state residents.

Nationally, 7.7 million people have caught the virus, up 5 percent from the week before. A total of 213,614 people have died from the virus in the United States.
