Hinsdale Sees Lower Hike In Virus Cases

Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills experience increases in coronavirus-related deaths.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills saw big drops in the rate of increase in coronavirus cases last week, according to county health authorities.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had seen 930 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up by 46 from a week earlier, or a 5 percent increase. That was down from 10 percent the week before.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills reached 511 coronavirus cases as of Sunday, up 18 from a week earlier, or a 4 percent increase. Clarendon Hills also experienced a 10 percent jump the week before.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 48 deaths as a result of the coronavirus, up two from a week earlier, according to county agencies. In Clarendon Hills, the number of virus-related deaths increased to eight, one more than a week before. Hinsdale's number is largely driven by a coronavirus outbreak at ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home earlier in the crisis.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 52.7 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 46.8 in La Grange Park, 50.6 in Darien, 53 in Western Springs, 58.4 in Clarendon Hills, 59.8 in Elmhurst, 60.2 in DuPage County, 65.4 in Burr Ridge, 65.8 in suburban Cook County and 73 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 900,370, up 5.8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 15,202 state residents.

Nationally, 17.6 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 315,260 people have died from the virus in the United States.
