Hinsdale Sees One Of Its Biggest Jumps In Virus Cases
Clarendon Hills experiences its largest weekly increase since the pandemic began.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale saw only a dozen new coronavirus cases in the nearly five weeks before June 28. However, as of Sunday, the village saw that same increase within a week's time. Hinsdale now has 201 documented cases, according to county health authorities.
Meanwhile, neighboring Clarendon Hills experienced its biggest weekly increase since the pandemic started. As of Sunday, it reached 57, up seven from the week before. Western Springs also saw its largest jump, increasing to 63, up from 50 a week earlier.

* Cook County reported a range of 1 to 4 cases on the Cook County side of Hinsdale on April 1. At most, Hinsdale would have had 12 cases total.
As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 11.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 4.7 in Western Springs, 6.5 in Clarendon Hills, 6.6 in Darien, 6.8 in La Grange Park, 7.4 in Elmhurst, 10 in Burr Ridge and DuPage County as a whole, 13.5 in La Grange and 14.8 in suburban Cook County.

As of Friday, ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home had reported 168 coronavirus cases and 33 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. That was the exact number of cases that the nursing home had a week before. The number of deaths increased by one over the previous week. Nursing home numbers include employees who may live in other towns. Such employees are not listed as being from Hinsdale in the case numbers.
While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 147,251, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,020 state residents.
Nationally, 2.8 million people have caught the virus and 129,576 have died from it.
