Hinsdale Sees Record Number Of Virus Cases: Agencies

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale last week saw a record number of coronavirus cases, according to county health agencies.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 2,271 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, up 105 in the last week. The previous weekly record was 79 in December 2020. The week before last, the village experienced 58 new cases.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills reached 1,237 coronavirus cases, up 57 in the last week. The week before last, it recorded 36 new cases. The village experienced its highest weekly total in December 2020, with 65 new cases.

Hinsdale saw no new coronavirus deaths in the last week, with the total at 62 since the pandemic's beginning, according to county agencies. Clarendon Hills' number of deaths increased by one in the last week, to 14.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 128 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 112 in Darien, 128 in DuPage County, 131 in La Grange Park, 134 in Elmhurst, 140 in suburban Cook County, 141 in Clarendon Hills, 143 in La Grange and 148 in Western Springs.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 2,021,302, a 3.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 27,435.

Nationally, 51.6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 809,300 people have died from the virus in the United States.
