Hinsdale Sees Smallest Hike So Far In Virus Cases
Hinsdale has a higher rate of cases compared to nearby towns. Nursing home outbreak appears to be contained.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale saw its smallest percentage increase in coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. As of Sunday, the number of cases edged up 2 percent over the previous week, increasing by four to 181, according to county health authorities. Hinsdale's number has been driven by a severe outbreak at one of its nursing homes, officials say.
Like Hinsdale, neighboring Clarendon Hills saw its case number increase by four over the last week. Here is the growth in coronavirus case numbers in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills:

Hinsdale has 10.3 coronavirus cases per thousand residents. That compares to 3.1 in Western Springs, 4.9 in Elmhurst and Clarendon Hills, 5.2 in Darien, 5.8 in La Grange Park, 8 in Burr Ridge, 8.4 in DuPage County, 11.4 in La Grange and 12.3 in suburban Cook County.
As of Friday, ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home has reported 165 coronavirus cases and 28 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. That was an increase of one case and one death from a week earlier. Hinsdale's overall number likely does not include all the nursing home cases. Nursing home numbers include employees who may live in other towns.

While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 120,260, up 9 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 5,390 state residents.
Nationally, 1.8 million people have caught the virus and 106,198 have died from it.
