Hinsdale Spa Owner Accused Of Secret Videos: Cops

He faces five felony accounts. Police said they identified more than 60 victims.

HINSDALE, IL – The owner of a Hinsdale spa was arrested last week, accused of taking secret videos of people in his business, police said.

Jason W. Spencer, 51, of Houston, faces five felony counts of unauthorized video recordings without getting consent, police said.

In December 2024, police said they received an anonymous tip of an illegal "smoke detector" hidden camera at Reflexion Spa, 49½ S. Washington St.

After getting the tip, police removed cameras from the treatment rooms as well as a recording device and hard drive found at the business, Police Chief Brian King said in a statement Wednesday.

As part of the investigation, King said, detectives interviewed hundreds of customers and reviewed business records and surveillance footage.

Through this work, police said they identified more than 60 victims who were unknowingly and illegally recorded in treatment rooms.

"There is no evidence that additional crimes occurred at the business," the chief said. "We recognize the serious and lasting impact this violation of privacy has had on the victims."

Last Thursday, Spencer surrendered to authorities on an arrest warrant that was issued Dec. 30, police said. He was released and given a court date.

In a statement, Village President Greg Hart said that after the arrest warrant was issued, the village did not renew Reflexion Spa's business license, which expired in December. Hart said Spencer was told at the time of his arrest.

Hart said the business has 10 days to appeal the decision, a period that ends Monday.

"During this period, the business is operating without a license and at its own risk," Hart said. "If no appeal is filed by (Monday), the Village will pursue all enforcement options available to ensure the business ceases operations."

The police first publicly reported the allegation in December 2024. Patch has submitted regular public records requests since then, but the police said they were investigating the matter.

Patch left a message for comment for Spencer at a phone number listed online for the Hinsdale spa. A woman answered the phone.
