Hinsdale Takes Small Fraction Of Property Tax Bill
The village receives a greater portion than some of its neighbors.
HINSDALE, IL — Leaders of area municipalities like to note their municipalities take a small portion of residents' property tax bills.
Hinsdale is no different.
At this week's Village Board meeting, Village President Tom Cauley said the Hinsdale makes up a small fraction of the bill.

"While almost 40 percent of the village's revenue comes from the property tax, we only get 7 percent of the property tax," he said. "I think that's important for residents to know because I often get asked, 'Why are our property taxes so high?'"
He pointed to the elementary and high school districts, which get 78 percent of the property tax bill.

"We are not a substantial taker of the property tax," he said.
As a percentage of property tax bills, the village of Hinsdale takes more percentage-wise than some nearby towns. Darien and Burr Ridge get 4 percent and 2 percent, respectively.
Willowbrook, meanwhile, receives less than half a percent.
According to Hinsdale's statistics, here is what taxing entities get:
