Hinsdale Teachers Won't Strike Before Oct. 11 Homecoming
Teachers will celebrate homecoming traditions, and they continue to help students with college applications.

Teachers in Hinsdale announced they won’t let a strike interfere with Hinsdale Central’s homecoming celebration, scheduled for Oct. 11, and if a strike happens, it would be after homecoming, according a The Hinsdale High School Teachers Association news release.
“A strike is the last thing the teachers want,” said John Bowman, president of the teachers association, in the news release. “While the timing of the posting process makes a strike possible before Homecoming, we are committed to preserving Homecoming for the students.”
The earliest the teachers could legally strike would be Oct. 7, which is 28 days after the teachers initiated the public posting process on Sept. 9. The District 86 Board of Education has until Tuesday, Sept. 16, to submit its latest proposal.
Bowman said teachers and counselors have been helping students with college applications, and they are working “to minimize the impact a strike could have on students.”
The teachers had previously decided not to delay the start of the school year with the strike, according to the news release.
The school board has scheduled a special meeting of the Dist. 86 board for Monday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at Hinsdale High School.
