Hinsdale Virus Caseload Sees Low Rate Of Increase

The village experienced 15 new cases in the last week, according to county health authorities.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale continues to see lower rates of increase in coronavirus cases, according to county health statistics. As of Sunday, the village experienced 15 new cases in the last week, amounting to a 4 percent hike.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills' cases numbered 162 as of Sunday, up five from a week before.

No figures are available on those cases in which people are considered recovered.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale's number of coronavirus-related deaths remained at 40, government figures show. Clarendon Hills has recorded one virus-related death.

More than a third of Hinsdale's coronavirus caseload comes from the ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 22 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 14 in La Grange Park, 14.7 in Darien, 17.4 in Western Springs, 18.5 in Clarendon Hills, 18.8 in Elmhurst, 18.9 in DuPage County, 24 in suburban Cook County, 24.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands) and 25.5 in Burr Ridge.

While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 287,930, up 5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,601 state residents.

Nationally, 7.1 million people have caught the virus, up 5 percent from the week before. A total of 204,033 people have died from the virus in the United States.
