As of Friday, ManorCare of Hinsdale nursing home had 163 coronavirus cases and 24 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. But Hinsdale's overall number likely does not include all the nursing home cases. That's because county health departments count confirmed cases, while the state's nursing home figures include both confirmed and presumed cases. Also, nursing home numbers include employees, who may live in other towns.
While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.
