Hinsdale Virus Cases Up By Nearly A Third

An outbreak at a nursing home is driving the spike in the coronavirus caseload in Hinsdale.

HINSDALE, IL — The number of Hinsdale's coronavirus cases shot up by nearly a third in the last week, increasing to 163, from 125 a week earlier, according to Sunday's reports from county health authorities. This is largely because of an outbreak at a local nursing home. Neighboring Clarendon Hills, meanwhile, saw just three more cases in the last week, totaling 29.

As of Friday, ManorCare of Hinsdale nursing home, 600 Ogden Ave., had 147 coronavirus cases and 19 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. It has the highest number of cases of any nursing home in DuPage County.

While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries, that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.
