Hinsdale's Goal: Keep Roads In 'Excellent Shape Forever'
Village officials want to prepare a 15-year plan for road improvements.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale is poised to hire a consultant to prepare its 15-year plan for roads, with an official saying the goal was to keep the village's streets in "excellent shape forever."
The current 15-year plan is scheduled to last through 2024. Officials said the plan has taken care of the village's 66 miles of roads.
"All the roads we have done in our current (plan) will not last forever," Trustee Neale Byrnes told the Village Board this week.

He said over the next 15 years, the village won't have to do any work on Hinsdale and Chicago avenues because they are concrete, which lasts a lot longer. "And there are some roads that just don't get that much traffic. I suspect they'll go beyond the 15-year period," Byrne said.
Hinsdale officials are looking to pay HR Green $57,400 to develop the plan.

The village has already received preliminary information from the firm: Hinsdale is expected to spend $37.5 million to maintain its roads over the next 15 years, amounting to $2.5 million a year.
Byrnes said the plan doesn't include needed repairs to the water and sewer system.
"Our engineering group has various plans for management of our underground utilities," he said.
