Hinsdale's Good News After Rainfall: Official

Money spent on storm project was "well spent," village president says.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale's village president said this week he was "happy to report" good news after the seven inches of rainfall over the weekend. He focused on the storm drainage project that involved an underground tank to help alleviate flooding on Madison Street.

"I assume everyone agrees that had we had this event two years ago, we would have had three or four feet of water (on Madison), and it would have been impassable for two days," Village President Tom Cauely told the Village Board on Tuesday. "At no point was it impassable, so it worked well. I'm glad that it worked. We spent a lot of money on it. It was money well spent."

A number of nearby suburbs had flooding issues, including Elmhurst. Officials there said its storm systems worked as designed. A number of streets flooded, including Spring Road. But officials said that is part of the city's stormwater plan — a way to keep water from houses.
