Hinsdale's Virus Rate Increase Picks Up
The number of coronavirus deaths in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills remains the same, statistics show.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale experienced relatively low rates of increase in coronavirus cases in August. In fact, it saw no new cases one week. As of Sunday though, the local caseload numbered 308, up 23 from a week earlier, or an 8 percent hike, according to county health authorities.
Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills' cases numbered 128 as of Sunday, up 7 percent from the previous week.
As of Sunday, Hinsdale's number of coronavirus-related deaths remained at 39. Clarendon Hills has recorded one virus-related death. Those numbers have not changed in some time. Hinsdale's number is likely driven by an early outbreak at the ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 17.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 11.7 in Darien, 12.6 in Western Springs, 12.7 in La Grange Park, 14 in Elmhurst, 14.6 in Clarendon Hills, 15.8 in DuPage County, 19.5 in Burr Ridge, 19.9 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands) and 20.4 in suburban Cook County.

As of Friday, ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home had reported 168 coronavirus cases and 33 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. Those numbers have not changed for weeks. Nursing home numbers include employees who may live in other towns. Such employees are not listed as being from Hinsdale in the case numbers.
While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 233,355, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,019 state residents.
Nationally, 5.9 million people have caught the virus, up 1 percent from the week before. A total of 182,149 people have died from the virus in the United States.
