HMS Open House, Tours Scheduled for March 13

The Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education approved a resolution to place a $65 million referendum question on the ballot for community vote in the March 15, 2016 election, for the purpose of building a new school that would replace Hinsdale Middle School. The District planned a series of events to provide opportunities for community members to learn more about the referendum and share their feedback on the proposed school design. The District recently announced that an additional pre-referendum event has been scheduled.

On Sunday, March 13, any interested community member is invited to stop by Hinsdale Middle School between 1pm and 3pm for an Open House. The event is intended to welcome residents, local businesses, and parents into the building so they can explore the school and see in person the facility challenges the District has outlined. HMS staff will be on hand to provide guided tours.

Director of Communications Bridget McGuiggan explains that the new date was added following the success of a similar event held earlier this month. “We welcomed about 30 attendees to HMS on February 17 for a presentation followed by tours of the building led by eight HMS teachers. Feedback from that event was extremely positive. Community members commented that it was beneficial to hear about the school from the people who work there every day. The teachers were able to describe the facility challenges in the context of what they see and experience when nearly 800 students are in the building.”

Other upcoming events include a webinar on Monday, February 29 (live at 12pm and then available as a recording) and a presentation on Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30am at HMS.
