Witness notices door ajar on neighbor's house and calls police, report says.
HINSDALE, IL — In recent days, Hinsdale police have handled calls bout a house burglary, car burglaries, gift card fraud and a counterfeit bill. Here is information from the Hinsdale police reports:
House burglary
- A house in the 200 block of Phillippa Street was burglarized between 1 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. Aug. 6. A witness discovered a rear door to the victim's house ajar and called police. A suspect entered the house and rummaged through the bedrooms. A list of stolen items was unavailable.
Gift card fraud

- A resident in the 10 block of Clay Street was told by someone that a computer was ordered through Amazon and that he needed to buy gift cards to stop the purchase. The victim sent a number of gift cards to the suspect over the phone and reported a loss of $3,100. The incident happened July 27 and was reported Aug. 10.
Car burglary
- An unlocked SUV was burglarized about 6 a.m. Aug. 6 in the 500 block of North Garfield Avenue. The person was seen on surveillance footage removing two bags of clothing from the car, which was parked in the driveway. The clothing was valued at $600. The suspect was described as wearing jogging pants and a hoodie and leaving in a gray and silver Nissan with tinted windows.
- An unlocked car was burglarized between 4 p.m. Aug. 3 and 4 a.m. Aug. 4 in the 600 block of East First Street. A garage door opener was stolen. It was used to open the garage door. A witness found the opener and returned it to the victim.
- Someone entered a victim's unlocked car without permission overnight Aug. 6 in the 400 block of North Quincy Street. Nothing was reported missing.
- A car parked in a driveway was burglarized between midnight and 8 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 400 block of North Bruner Street. A box containing clothing valued at $45 was stolen.
Counterfeit bill

- A customer at McDonald's, 935 N. York Road, attempted to pay for food with a $20 bill about 11:30 a.m. Aug. 4. The person took the counterfeit bill and left the store. The suspect was described as a white man, 40 to 50, having brown and gray hair, and wearing a black jacket and maroon baseball cap.
Revoked license
- Darrell Ewing, 57, of Chicago, was cited about midnight Aug. 8 at Route 83 and 55th Street on charges of driving with a revoked license and improper lane use. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
