Ava Gilbert: It's Tooth Fairy Time

I made my first visit to the dentist last week and boy was it memorable!

Hey, party people! It’s me, Ava. Mom's on hiatus again so I thought I would write to you this week. And lucky for you, I have some great news to share!

Do you remember the last time you saw the tooth fairy? Honestly. Do you?

For us, it was last Tuesday, on National Tooth Fairy Day! The sighting occurred promptly at 4:30 p.m. while at Brush Pediatric Dentistry in Hinsdale!

Ya see, I had my first visit to the dentist that day. Mommy said she was taking me to see Dr. Albert so she could check out my chompers. I was a little reluctant at first, but grew very excited when I learned the tooth fairy might be there! We arrived at the office, and sure enough, the beautiful tooth fairy was there. She was very nice. She even gave me a gold dollar! She also put some cool sunglasses on me so the bright light wouldn’t hurt my eyes.

When Dr. Albert came into the room, she chatted with my mom about the Hinsdale Junior's Benefit; they were blabbing about what each other was going to wear—blah, blah, blah. Then Dr. Albert turned her attention to me! She told me how much she liked my outfit, and told me she wanted to look in my mouth to see what was going on. I didn't understand why, but I obliged. I must admit, I was a little scared, but she was really pretty and she had this super-cool chair that moved up and reclined so I said, “What the hey! Let’s do this!”

Everything was going just fine until she got this metal pokey stick and started looking for “sugarbugs.” I didn’t want any part of that. It’s not that it hurt; I just didn’t like somebody all up in my grill. She even tried distracting me by counting the 10 teeth I had upstairs, and then counting the 10 teeth I had downstairs. I wasn’t having it, though.

So then Mommy offered to have me sit on her lap. I gave it a shot, and before I knew it, Mommy was holding my arms down like a straightjacket. I didn’t like it one bit. I was screaming, crying, and even trying to head-butt my mom. I can’t believe Mommy tricked me. That was not nice.

Lucky for me, the restraint only lasted about 30 seconds. When we got up, after what seemed like an eternity, I was so happy! And since I was such a good girl, I was given a toothbrush, a princess flossy thing, and a little cup of water. I started to think to myself, “Hey, that wasn’t so bad. Perhaps I overreacted a little.” Just a little.

Mommy, Dr. Albert and the Tooth Fairy told me I did a very good job—and Dr. Albert told my mom that my teeth “look great and there are no cavities,” whatever the heck those are. This made my mom super happy.

Dr. Albert didn’t look at Jack’s teeth—probably because he doesn’t have any. It amazes me how the little fella is ever gonna eat a cheeseburger without any chompers. Poor guy must be so sick of having a bottle, meal after meal. How could one survive without ever tasting the deliciousness of fries, nuggets and cake? It's beyond me!

Lastly, I would like you to know that ever since our visit to Dr. Albert, I’ve been a teeth-brushing phenomenon; I like to brush them all day long. Mom has had to buy multiple toothbrushes to keep in all the bathrooms because I enjoy doing it so much. And I absolutely love the bubble-gum-flavored toothpaste, too. Mommy says I can’t eat it like it’s candy because it will hurt my tummy. Can’t say I believe her about that one, either.

We’re going back to see Dr. Albert in six months. Do you think the Tooth Fairy will be there? I hope so! But even if she’s not, Dr. Albert will take good care of me and make sure I’m sugarbug-free! And who knows, maybe next time I'll get a pony!

Until the next adventure, my mom will keep you updated on what’s going on with Team Gilbert. Have a good week everyone!
