'It's Time,' Vote Yes On District 86 Referendum: Letter
"Our bill has come due," a resident in support of the $140 million District 86 referendum writes.
HINSDALE, IL - Danielle Jamil sent the following letter in support of the Hinsdale Township High School District 86 referendum.
I’m writing to express my support for the D86 referendum to fix and update both Hinsdale South and Hinsdale Central high schools. As a resident of the former Buffer Zone that has had my share of issues with the BOE, I want to explain WHY I am voting Yes for the referendum.
Simply put? It’s time.
Our community is extremely diverse and the board has worked hard with its members to identify and put forth a plan to give our children facilities that are safe and provide support for 21st century educational needs.
D86 history is rife with stories (some good, some not) and I am choosing to focus on our future. We can find common ground and ways to move forward. I moved here a year ago thanks to the reputation our incredibly talented students and teachers have built: we live in a district with 2 top-20 IL schools! That’s impressive. Our facilities should start to approach that level of performance – and this plan starts with the foundational basics.
Is less than $1/day a reasonable investment to pay for the 40 years of use we’ve had since our last referendum was paid off? And the next 21 years? Most schools go to referendum to fund capital improvements every 15-20 years. Our bill has come due.
Is this board perfect? No. Is the plan perfect? No. Will we ever ALL agree on the details? No.
Do we all care about our kids and community? Yes. Our property values? Yes.
We all should be able to agree that while we can’t change the past, we can certainly choose to strive for a better future together. Fixing the schools of D86 is the first step forward.
Please join me with a yes vote on 4/2.
