Jealous? No Final Exams In District 86

The district explains its decision to do away with finals.

HINSDALE, IL — Final exams are a tradition in American high schools. But Hinsdale High School District 86 students won't have to sweat it out this semester — no all-night cram sessions.

In a mass email Friday, the district announced it was doing away with the exams this semester. This will let classes recover the three to five days of instruction at the end of the semester that is typically devoted to the review and administration of final exams, the district said.

Part of the reason for the decision, the district said, was the "challenges associated with administering what have traditionally been in-person exams to students who are learning remotely on a part-time or full-time basis."

Tests can be given during the final week, but they will be calculated the same way as all the others during the semester, according to the district.
