CLARENDON HILLS, IL – A Clarendon Hills attorney is seeking money to pay for improvements to his downtown office building.

Last month, lawyer Allan Alongi filed a request for $100,000 from a village tax increment financing district, or TIF.

In his letter to the village, he said he bought the building at 3 Golf Ave. a dozen years ago from the family that built it in 1955. It is across from Village Hall.

"It is a nice visual reflection of the Village Hall," Alongi said. "The first repair we completed just after the papers were signed was to rebuild the original cupola and weathervane, so that it remained visually sympathetic with the Village Hall.

In his request, Alongi cited the more than $100,000 in improvements he has made to the building.

The final projects, he said, are the last major work needed to bring up the property to today's standards. They include new doors, windows, electrical panels and breakers, among other things.

The village staff recommended the Village Board reimburse $41,900 in improvements. Those are for eligible costs under the tax district, the village said.

On Monday, the board is expected to vote on whether to approve the spending.

In a tax increment financing district, growth in property tax revenue is earmarked for improvements in that area. As a TIF, the neighborhood is considered "blighted."
