HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale is planning to rebuild Sixth Street next year, which is expected to cost $4.5 million.

At this week's Village Board meeting, officials did not give the exact stretch of Sixth Street they were targeting. But they talked about the four-block brick part of the road, which is from Garfield Avenue to County Line Road. The east-west Sixth runs nearly the entire length of the town.

The project will include water main work as well as separation of the sanitary and storm sewers, officials said.

The village's plan is to replace the road with asphalt, except the intersections, which would be done in brick.

If Sixth Street residents want brick for the four blocks, they would have to cover the extra costs through a special taxing district, Village President Tom Cauley said.

"It just wouldn't be our money if we did it all brick," he said.

Village Manager Kathleen Gargano said officials plan to meet with Sixth Street residents next month or in early January.
