Man Arrested In Hinsdale House Burglary: Police

The man may face six to 30 years in prison given his criminal history, prosecutors said.

HINSDALE, IL – A Chicago man was arrested Thursday after breaking into a house in a Hinsdale neighborhood, authorities said.

Franshawn Whittenburg, 50, was charged with felony residential burglary. Prosecutors said he could face a sentence of six to 30 years because of his criminal history.

About 10:30 a.m. Thursday, a resident called about suspicious activity at a house in the 400 block of Woodside Avenue.

Officers noticed a back door next to the driveway open with damage to the handle, DuPage County prosecutors said in a news release.

Officers said they saw multiple drawers opened and their contents scattered. An investigation led police to Whittenburg.

According to the news release, Whittenburg stole items from a Sentry fire safe containing important family documents, a checkbook and jewelry, including cuff links, bracelets, rings and necklaces.

Whittenburg was arrested about 5:30 pm. Thursday in Chicago, police said.

It was the first reported house burglary in 2023 in Hinsdale.

"The arrest mere hours after the home burglary occurred speaks to our commitment to tenaciously pursue those that commit crimes in the community," Hinsdale Police Chief Brian King said in the news release.
