No New Virus Cases in Hinsdale

Clarendon Hills sees a slight increase in coronavirus caseload.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale had no new cases of the coronavirus in the last week, according to county health authorities. The caseload stood at 274 as of Sunday. The previous week, Hinsdale experienced 18 new cases, or a 9 percent increase. The last time Hinsdale had no weekly increase in cases was in June.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills cases numbered 112 as of Sunday, up from 107 a week before.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale's number of coronavirus-related deaths remained at 39, up one from a week before, authorities say. Clarendon Hills has recorded one virus-related death. Hinsdale's number is likely driven by an outbreak at the ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 15.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 10 in Darien, 10.7 in Western Springs, 10.9 in La Grange Park, 12.5 in Elmhurst, 12.8 in Clarendon Hills, 14 in DuPage County, 17.8 in Burr Ridge, 18.6 in suburban Cook County and 21.9 in La Grange.

As of Friday, ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home had reported 168 coronavirus cases and 33 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. Those numbers have not budged in recent weeks. Nursing home numbers include employees who may live in other towns. Such employees are not listed as being from Hinsdale in the case numbers.

While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 206,081, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,744 state residents.

Nationally, 5.3 million people have caught the virus, up 7 percent from the week before. A total of 168,696 people have died from the virus in the United States.
