Oak Students Turn Cardboard Boxes into Reading Cabin

Oak 5th graders used minimal tools and a lot of creativity and collaboration to turn leftover cardboard boxes into a reading cabin.

After receiving a new set of library furniture, Oak School was left with a large number of empty cardboard boxes. Fifth grade students put the materials to use through construction of a reading cabin. Using collaboration, creativity, and communication, students worked in small groups to design and build a small house-like space to work and play. Teachers provided only minimal direction and a set of tools specific for cardboard construction purchased from "Makedo." Students put their mathematical and engineering skills to the test as each group constructed components of the structure's walls and roof.
