One New Virus Case In Hinsdale In Last Week

The coronavirus growth rate continues to decline in Hinsdale.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale saw just one new coronavirus case over the last week, continuing a trend of a declining rate of increase. As of Sunday, the number of cases stood at 182, according to county health authorities. For a time last month, Hinsdale's number appears to have been driven by a severe outbreak at one of its nursing homes.

Meanwhile, neighboring Clarendon Hills saw its case number increase by three over the last week. Here is the growth in coronavirus case numbers in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills:

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 10.3 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 3.3 in Western Springs, 5.2 in Elmhurst, 5.3 in Clarendon Hills, 5.4 in Darien, 5.7 in La Grange Park, 8.4 in Burr Ridge, 8.9 in DuPage County, 11.9 in La Grange and 13 in suburban Cook.

While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 127,757, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 5,904 state residents.

Nationally, 2 million people have caught the virus and 112,471 have died from it.
