HINSDALE, IL – A Hinsdale man with a gambling debt tried to find money earlier this month in two houses in a local neighborhood, police said.

Through a public records request, Patch obtained the full police report.

About 1 a.m. March 16, police were called to a house in the 600 block of South Bruner Street. A doorbell camera showed a man trying to enter the back door of a house, police said. He was unable to get in.

A couple of blocks away, an officer saw the man in the video.

At the police station, the man, identified as James A. McGann, 21, of the 200 block of South Adams Street, said he had just incurred a $200 debt in poker to another resident, police said.

McGann told police he was looking around the neighborhood to make money quickly, according to the report.

The next night, a resident in the 400 block of South Bruner told police that a man tried to enter his back door around the same time as the other incident. It was locked, so the suspect was unsuccessful, police said.

Officers determined it was McGann who attempted the break-in, the report said. Both houses in question are near McGann's.

McGann was charged with three counts of criminal trespassing. He was released on bond.
