Progress On Hinsdale Residents' Demands: Official
Residents affected by flooding want the tollway to cover their losses.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale residents seeking compensation from the Illinois Tollway for flood damage in late June are making headway, an official said Tuesday.
"It appears at this point that progress is being made," Village President Tom Cauley told the Village Board on Tuesday. "The contractor, Walsh Construction, is meeting with residents to discuss their claims.
Cauley said the village would continue to work with residents to get their compensation.

"It looks at this point that things are moving in the right direction," he said.
The progress appears to have started after Cauley focused on the issue at the Village Board's meeting two weeks ago. The village brought in an Illinois Tollway official to speak about it.

The village blames the June 26 flooding of properties in the northeastern part of the village on the tollway's Interstate 294 expansion project.
At the previous board meeting, tollway official Lanyea Griffin said she had expected Walsh Construction to have resolved the issue by the end of September. But that did not happen.
"There have been commitments made by Walsh before that have not been met," she said.
Cauley responded that it had taken too long for residents to get their compensation. He promised to update the board on the issue at its twice-a-month meetings.
