Purse Thefts, DUIs: Hinsdale Cops
Two men steal more than $5,000 worth in purses from a store, police say.
HINSDALE, IL – In the last week, Hinsdale police handled cases involving purse thefts, DUIs, credit card fraud, an attempted break-in at a dealership and vandalism. Here is information from the latest Hinsdale police reports:
Purse thefts
- Two men stole three purses about 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Marcus, 101 S. Washington St. The purses were valued at $5,450. The men were described as black and in their 30s. One had tattoos and long dreads and was wearing a black jacket. The other was wearing a red varsity-style jacket. The case is pending.
DUIs

- Jonathan A. Thorsness, 33, of Willowbrook, was arrested about 10 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East Third Street on charges of DUI, disobeyed stop sign, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and not driving on the right side of the road. Thorsness crashed a vehicle. He submitted to testing that indicated he was over the legal limit. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Amber Lynn Lanz, 33, of Worth, was arrested shortly before midnight Saturday in the 600 block of North Garfield Avenue on charges of DUI and resisting or obstructing an officer. She refused testing to determine her blood-alcohol content. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Daniel A. Latham, 60, of Downers Grove, was arrested about 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of East Ogden Avenue on charges of DUI, resisting arrest and improper lane use. Latham refused testing to determine his blood-alcohol content. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
Credit card fraud
- A resident in the 100 block of South Vine Street told police Oct 17 that someone used his business credit card to order tools valued at $1,463 through an online retail store. The incident happened Oct. 11. The case is pending.
Attempted break-in

- A man in a black ski mask tried to gain entry into the repair shop at the Land Rover dealership, 336 E. Ogden Ave., about 4 p.m. Wednesday. The man left the area in a black Volkswagen SUV after he was unable to open the shop door. The case is pending.
Vandalism
- A suspect spread a large amount of egg-like residue on a victim’s truck and truck bed cover while it was parked in the street overnight Friday in the 10 block of North Monroe Street. The case is pending.
Decoration stolen
- A Halloween decoration was stolen from a yard about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 5800 block of South Grant Street.
Warrant
- Sharia Mathis, 30, of Elgin, was arrested about 1 a.m. Tuesday at York Road and Ogden Avenue on a Kane County warrant. She was cited on a charge of speeding. She was taken to the Kane County Jail.
