HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale is continuing to add stop and yield signs to intersections, part of its plan to reduce the number of uncontrolled intersections.

Now, village officials are proposing to add two-way stop signs at Ninth and Thurlow streets, Bodin and Ninth streets, and Adams and Ninth streets, which are in the village's southwest quadrant. After these signs are added, the village would have just two remaining uncontrolled intersections, officials said.

"We previously had a lot of uncontrolled intersections in the village," Trustee Luke Stifflear said at this week's Village Board meeting. "It was my thought that with the proliferation of Uber, Lyft and food delivery drivers, there are a lot of people not paying attention all the time, so it made sense to look at all the intersections."

The two remaining uncontrolled intersections are in remote parts of the village with only a few homes, Stifflear said. They have no crash history.

Stifflear said that when the project for controlled intersections started a couple of years ago, residents called for stop or yield signs at every intersection.

"It's better to put them up than not to," he said.

The village is also poised to put a four-way stop at Lincoln and Center streets, where five crashes have happened in the last year. Now, the intersection has yield signs on Center.

The trustees plan to vote on the stop and yield signs at a later meeting.
