Red Devils Upset Defending Champs To Win Regional Title
Hinsdale Central Girls Basketball captured its first Regional Championship since 2015. Coach Brett Moore re-establishing winning tradition.
In a thrilling showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Hinsdale Central Red Devils Girls basketball team clinched their first Regional Championship since 2015. On Thursday, February 19th, the Red Devils pulled off a stunning upset by defeating the defending state champions and highly ranked Kenwood with a finally tally of 50-49.
The Red Devils' defense was relentless, causing significant issues for Kenwood throughout the game. Leading the charge on offense was Senior Katherine Skinner, a Claremont McKenna commit, who opened the game with a three-pointer and with that the Red Devils never looked back; Skinner went on to score a pace setting 25 points. Adding to the Red Devils' offensive firepower was Sophomore sensation Riley Orozco, who has emerged as one of the top deep threats in the state, contributing 12 points to the team's triumphant effort. The recipe for the success of the re-emergence of the program and this team has been a focus on selfless play, a strong culture and a tough do anything needed mindset.
The victory has set the stage for an exciting Sectional Semi-Final game against Downers Grove North, scheduled for Tuesday, February 24 at 7:30 PM at Hinsdale Central. Under the leadership of Coach Brett Moore, now in his second year running the program, Hinsdale Central has re-established itself as a force to be reckoned with. The future of the program has never looked brighter.
