Respirators Stolen, Trespassing: Hinsdale Cops
Items are stolen from a locked office at the Hinsdale hospital, but there are no signs of forced entry, police say.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale police responded to a variety of calls in recent days, including a theft from a locked hospital office and a man seen walking on the train tracks. Here is information from the latest Hinsdale police reports:
- Thirteen respirators valued at $20 to $25 each and several gift bags containing lotions and soaps donated by residents were missing from a locked office at Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale, 119 N. Oak St. The theft occurred between 3:30 p.m. May 1 and 7 a.m. May 6. There were no signs of forced entry to the office.
- Nicholas A. Komater, 30, of Chicago, was arrested at 1 p.m. May 8 on charges of obstructing identification and trespass on railroad property. According to a police report, Komater, who had left the local hospital against medical advice, was seen walking on the train tracks near the Highland Train Station. He then gave a false identity to police. When police learned his true identity, they discovered he had outstanding arrest warrants. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. On May 6, Western Springs police arrested Komater on charges of retail theft and obstructing identification. Police were called to Walgreens about a retail theft in progress. Western Springs listed a Cary address for Komater.
- A BB pellet damaged a window of a house between May 1 and May 3 in the 5700 block of South Grant Street.
- A garage in the 100 block of North Lincoln Street was burglarized between 4 p.m. March 21 and noon March 26. A license plate from an old car the owner no longer has was stolen from the garage. The victim received a notice from the Illinois Tollway for unpaid tolls. The crime was reported May 8.
- Robert Lee Nathaniel Jr., 32, of Riverdale, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. May 9 at Ogden Avenue and Interstate 294 on charges of DUI and stopping, parking or standing on the roadway. He was seen stopped in his car in the roadway on Ogden Avenue at I-294. He was sleeping behind the wheel with his car in drive. Nathaniel, who refused blood-alcohol testing, was released and given a date to appear in court.
- A resident in the 900 block of South Thurlow Street was selling a table on Craigslist and was contacted by someone who offered to pay for the table and shipping charges to Houston. The suspect sent a check for more than the cost of the table and shipping. The victim deposited the check into his bank account and was instructed to obtain a cashier's check for the remaining balance. The victim then learned from his bank that the check had bounced. The victim reported the crime May 7.
- A resident in the 700 block of South Park Avenue reported an unknown person was on his property at 4 a.m. May 11. His garage alarm was activated and there was motion activation on his video doorbell. The victim checked his cars, and they were undisturbed.
- A car in the 900 block of South County Line Road was burglarized early the morning of May 11. A police officer saw a backpack in the middle of the street about 4 a.m. and found medication inside belonging to the owner. Police contacted the owner, who said his car was rummaged through. Nothing else was reported missing.
Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
