Ruse Burglars Target Hinsdale Resident: Cops

One of the suspects distracts the homeowner by taking him into the back yard, police say.

HINSDALE, IL — A Hinsdale resident became a victim of a ruse burglary Tuesday evening, according to a police news release.

In the 500 block of West Chicago Avenue, a man lured the homeowner out of his house to show him something in the back yard, the release said. Meanwhile, another man entered and removed items from the master bedroom, police said.

The men were driving a white newer model pickup truck.

Ruse burglaries typically involve someone purporting to be from a tree service, a utility or an inspector from the village, according to police. The village and public utilities do not send people to homes unannounced, police said.

The police department said residents should always ask for identification cards and call the police if they question the validity of a service provider.
