HINSDALE, IL — About 90 percent of Hinsdale High School District 86 students have chosen a blended approach of in-person and remote learning to start out the school year, the district said Monday. The other 10 percent will go entirely remote in their lessons.

In Elmhurst School District 205, officials reported last week that 85 percent of families chose the in-person option.

In a mass email Monday, District 86 revealed more details about its reopening. Next Monday is the first day of school. Well, sort of. Most students won't actually be class that day. They'll be in remote sessions with teachers. The same goes for Tuesday. Wednesday is set to be remote every week. The district plans to divide students in groups A and B.

On Thursday of the first week, Group A will come in the school for in-person learning, while Group B will follow the next day. On the following weeks, each group is set to attend two days of in-person lessons.

For most students, remote and in-person days will consist of lessons from 8 a.m. to 11:25 a.m., with each class 25 minutes long, down from the originally planned 38 minutes. Remote work will be 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. every weekday.

Students in self-contained special education classes are invited to join in-person activities on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of the first week.

Students are expected to find out which groups they are in by the close of business this Wednesday. The school will have no lunch periods during in-person days.
