Spirito Singers and Amalgam Martial Academy Team Up for Summer Camp

Campers at Spirito Singers' Summer Music Camp will learn many kinds of confidence this year.

Spirito Singers is a top-tier youth choir that inspires its singers to be leaders through high quality music education, excellence in performance, and service to others. Open to girls in grades 3-5, Spirito Summer Music Camp introduces students to the joy and power of making music together. And, after a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Camp is back and better than ever.

"We really wanted to give campers a sense of what Spirito is all about," explains Spirito Artistic Director Carling FitzSimmons, "so that as they go through their day, they can build all the skills we focus on during the year at Spirito: beautiful singing, solid self-confidence, and a team they know they can always rely on."

This year, self-confidence and team-building will take place both in and out of music rehearsals, thanks to a partnership with Amalgam Martial Academy. Amalgam Co-owner Frank Delo will teach a daily self-defense elective designed to build campers' confidence, focus, and discipline - skills that will also serve them well as budding musicians.

In addition to Delo's class, campers can look forward to daily choral rehearsals, music theory classes, and a musical theater class that focuses on strong solo singing, as well as acting and audition skills. The week will conclude with a showcase for family and friends to show off campers' new skills.

"My hope is that, by the end of the week, our campers will feel a lot more confident, both as musicians and as leaders," FitzSimmons says. She laughs, then adds, "And have a ton of fun in the process!"
