Struggling Hinsdale Shelter Yet To Reveal Financials
Recent donations have kept the animal shelter open, the group said. This was after the shelter suffered "severe financial difficulty."

HINSDALE, IL – The Hinsdale Humane Society has gone two years without revealing its financial information to the public.
This is despite a big push in recent months for more donations. In the fall, the group said it was struggling financially.
The society's website page for its annual report has contained the same message for months: "2021 Annual Report Coming Soon."

Asked about the lack of financial information on the website, the society's executive director, Jacki Ross, said in an email to Patch in November, "We will post our updated financials soon."
No law requires a nonprofit group such as the Hinsdale Humane Society to post financial information on its website. But some do so to give donors an idea about how their money is being spent.

The last IRS tax form from the society on the GuideStar website, which tracks nonprofits, was from 2020.
In late October, the society issued a statement saying it was experiencing "severe financial difficulty."
"Adoption fees and our community programming and services revenue don't come close to covering the expenses of caring for all of the animals that need us," the group said in a mass email. "We have cut our costs and are running as lean as possible, but are unable to keep up with all that is coming at us."
In a statement last month, the society thanked the community for the response to its "Save Our Shelter" campaign.
"Your financial support during this very stressful time has helped us keep our doors open," the society said. "We have much more work to do to secure our future, but we are on our way. Your generosity has made a huge difference in providing a bridge to our future."
Rossi, the executive director, couldn't be reached for immediate comment.
