The Lane School Head Custodian Leo Maas Earns Distinguished Service Award of Excellence
The Lane School Head Custodian Leo Maas has earned an Award of Excellence from the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA). The honor was given as part of the INSPRA Distinguished Service Awards at an event held May 2 to recognize staff, parents, residents, Board members and students who have gone above and beyond in their roles and have effectively served as public relations ambassadors through their leadership and commitment.
It was noted in the nomination for Maas submitted by Principal Casey Godfrey: “Every school has its own unique culture and cast of characters who collectively create a climate that defines and exemplifies the way people feel when visiting, volunteering or working there. At The Lane School, one word - family - would be best used to describe the atmosphere. I am humbled to introduce you to the Patriarch of The Lane School family, Mr. Leo Maas, our custodian.” Maas was highlighted for his exceptional work and commitment. “Leo is revered by staff, families and most importantly, students,” the nomination letter went on to note. In fact, Godfrey asked others to include comments about Maas in the nomination. “Being new to your school, I am in awe of what Leo does for The Lane community,” one parent noted. “I feel blessed and secure knowing that he is looking out for the best interest of every person in this building. He is consistently helpful, supportive, and kind. What a role model for our students and staff!” Another noted, “Leo is always giving his best effort to make everyone who comes through these doors feel welcome and safe - kids, staff, and parents alike! We adore Leo and are extremely fortunate to have him as part of our family at The Lane.”
