Theft Interrupted, Scam Stopped: Hinsdale Cops
Two men were caught as they attempted to steal equipment, report says.
HINSDALE, IL — In recent days, Hinsdale police responded to reports of an attempted theft, a scam and burglaries of unlocked cars. Here is information from the latest reports:
- Two men were interrupted as they attempted to steal a leaf blower valued at $580 from the victim's work truck about 12:30 p.m. July 22 at Sixth and Elm streets. The suspects left the area in a black SUV.
- A resident in the 100 block of East 58th Street was contacted by a person about a tent that the resident was selling for $1,500. The suspect sent a check for $3,700 and asked the resident to cash the check and send back $2,200. The victim recognized the scam and did not cash the check.
- An unlocked car was burglarized at 4 a.m. July 21 in the 600 block of South Monroe Street. The suspects were seen on surveillance video entering the car, which was parked in the driveway. The garage door opener was taken and found in the parkway by a neighbor.
- Two unlocked cars parked in a driveway were burglarized overnight July 21 in the 200 block of North Bruner Street. Someone rummaged through the interiors and stole a garage door opener from one of the cars.
- The valve cores on the tires of two cars were removed and tires flattened as a result overnight July 22 in the 10 block of South Thurlow Street. The repair cost was estimated at $200.
- A package was removed from a front porch shortly before 11 a.m. July 24 in the 700 block of South Garfield Avenue. The suspect was described as white or Hispanic, carrying a black backpack, and wearing a black baseball cap, black shirt, dark baggy pants and gray gym shoes.
- A glass pitcher valued at $350 and a bottle of cologne valued at $300 were missing from a house after an estate sale in the 600 block of South County Line Road. It occurred between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. July 23. It was reported four days later.
