Trash Hauler Vows Smooth Hinsdale Transition

The village is expected to replace its longtime garbage company.

HINSDALE, IL – The head of Hinsdale's likely new garbage hauling company promised a smooth transition.

Hinsdale is likely to replace its longtime hauler, Phoenix-based Republic Services, with Flood Brothers of Oakbrook Terrace.

Hinsdale has contracted with Republic since 2007. But Flood Brothers was recently the low bidder for the local contract, with prices below what Republic is now charging.

One of the challenges of a transition is the replacement of all rollout containers.

Kevin Flood, Flood Brothers' chief executive, spoke to the Village Board on Tuesday about his company's history with handovers.

Since 2020, he said, Flood Brothers has transitioned two dozen towns, some during busy times such as the Fourth of July and New Year's Day.

In one case, Flood Brothers handled a transition with two weeks' notice, Flood said.

"We're pretty confident we'll pick you up on Nov. 1, and we're not going to miss anything," he said. "We have a very good working relationship with Republic Services."

He said his firm has lost to other companies in bidding processes and that he has later heard the transitions were "nightmares."

Flood said Republic would hand over customers' account information.

"This is not the first time we've transitioned from them," he said. "They're professional. We're professional."

The Village Board is expected to vote on the contract with Flood Brothers at its next meeting.
