Trespassing Again At Old Hinsdale Religious Building: Cops

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale police responded a second time this month to trespassing at the Institute in Basic Life Principles, which has been closed for years.

About 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the building at 707 W. Ogden Ave. about what were reported as suspicious people on the property.

Police said they cited three 17-year-old boys from Joliet. They were given court dates and released.

On the night of July 13, police officers and firefighters responded to a fire alarm in the building.

Police said they found a door open and two fire extinguishers used inside the building. No one was found.

The village plans to hold a public hearing for a developer's proposed 19-home development on part of the institute's property.

Another set of developers is working on a plan for 11 duplexes and 169 senior living units for the other portion of the land.

Curfew

• A 14-year-old Oak Brook boy was stopped for an e-bicycle violation about 11 p.m. Wednesday at Garfield Avenue and Hickory Street. The youth was cited for a curfew violation and released to a parent.

Theft

• A 28-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 4 p.m. July 16 on a theft charge. Police said he was seen on surveillance video stealing phone chargers from Walgreens, 15 Grant Square. He was given a court date and then released.

DUI

• A 41-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 1 a.m. Sunday on charges of DUI and improper lane use. An officer apparently spotted the man in Hinsdale, but followed him to 55th Street and Brainard Avenue in La Grange. The man submitted to testing that indicated he was over the legal limit. He was given a court date and then released.
• A 34-year-old Cicerto man was arrested about 1:30 a.m. July 17 at Woodview Road and 55th Street on charges of DUI, speeding and improper lane usage. He refused testing to determine his blood-alcohol content. He was given a court date and then released.
