HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale Hospital has seen a turnaround since early 2025, as several indicators demonstrate, its chief executive said Tuesday.

Elise MacCarroll-Wright, who took the helm in January 2025, spoke to the Village Board. The hospital is known formally as UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale.

"We are very proud of the tremendous performance in patient experience," she said. "We had a lot of work to do when I came to the hospital. And we have turned that around."

The likelihood of an inpatient recommending Hinsdale Hospital, she said, is leading among the 57 hospitals in the AdventHealth chain.

MacCarroll-Wright said the employee turnover rate at the hospital was "quite high" when she took her job.

Since then, the hospital has cut it to 18 percent, while some of the departments have brought their turnover to below 10 percent, from over 40 percent, she said.

"We attribute that work to what we're doing around our culture and our team engagement. We perform a team engagement survey twice a year at our hospital," she said.

She also pointed to the hospital's open-heart surgeries. It performed 115 such procedures last year, with a "zero percent mortality rate," she said.

"That is the top performance in the nation, and we're very proud of it," MacCarroll-Wright said.

Admissions are up 10 percent and emergency room visits grew by a quarter, she said.

The hospital employs about 1,400, with a roster of 1,200 on the medical staff, MacCarroll-Wright said. The average daily patient census is 165.
