HINSDALE, IL – A man presented an identification to withdraw money last month at a Hinsdale bank, but police said there was a problem: It did not match the customer's ID.

The suspect was identified as 45-year-old Russell A. White of Glenwood.

On Oct. 26, White presented what police said was a fraudulent identification at Evergreen Bank, 1 Grant Square. An employee said the bank branch was small and that she did not recognize White as a customer, according to a police report.

Police were called. White told an officer that his name was Joe, then said he was mistaken and gave another name, police said.

Finally, he gave his actual name and his date of birth, according to the report. The ID card he presented to the bank was fraudulent, police said.

Employees told police the bank account in question had recently been accessed by another person who was not the account holder. Surveillance footage showed it was not White, police said.

White agreed to an interview with officers, but police blacked out that part of the report in response to Patch's public records request. It was unclear why.

The victim was a 62-year-old man, who told police he did not give White permission to use his identity.

Police charged White with felony aggravated identity theft against a person 60 or older and misdemeanor obstructing identification.

White was released and given a date to appear in court.
